Kurds/Kurdistan
Who are the Kurds? The Kurds are one of the world’s largest ethnic groups without an independent state, numbering about 40 million people across Turkey, Syria, Iraq and Iran. They speak various dialects of their own language, Kurdish, although governments have sometimes banned its usage. A majority are bilingual or multilingual, and are integrated into the countries where they reside.

Why are they important? There are around 40 million Kurdish people in the world. They helped fight in wars and right now they are fighting ISIS on the front lines while others are relaxing at home, playing with their friends, or getting educated at school. The Kurds help the world and one of the only things that they want in return is a country, and no matter how hard they work, or how long they fight, some people are still refusing to give them some land of their own.

Do the Kurds deserve their on country?
The Kurds in Syria have De Jure independence, meaning they have a constitution that separates them from other states. This constitution, which has been re-written in just the past month, unites three differing groups of Kurds into one unified region within Syria (Rojava Cantons). A huge argument against Kurdistan is that they are disunified, but if three differing groups of Kurds can come together to create a smaller region and constitution, it is highly likely that the same process can be applied on a larger scale to create one Kurdistan with a single government and differing parties to represent different Kurdish interests.
